Has anyone seen or heard any more about whether the new V-8 will be availale on the 5 series for 2009 when the model changes over in March?

Model year will probably change in September, not March. Unlikely this engine will be used in what will now be one of BMWs older platforms.

Who's going to buy 550s then? Looks alone (LCI) will not cut it for two more years. No one will pay $70K+ for a car with obsolete underpowered (compared to competition) engine.

I agree - I suspect it will be in the E60 right after the X6 is launched. Too much pressure from competitors for BMW to wait until the F10.

Last year the 6 cylinder engines were upgraded in March production for the US. One year is not a trend, but I would think there aren't that many V8 engine production lines to run very many variations.
