in your case, due to your car, you're actually wasting your money on a higher octane. you can stick with 87 or 89. what you should do is put 87 and run the car hard, if it doesnt ping then your ok, if it does then set up to next level.

The key is the N54 motors are now know for issues with the Injectors and the High Pressure Fuel Pump.
The first question the service dept/ BMW will ask is : Do you use Top Tear Gas?
In Atl there was an outbreak of N54 motor cars going down due to HPFP/injector failure. Most cars had their Fuel tested for high Ethanol content. BMW tried to refuse warranty work , do to high ethanol content. In some cases as high 37%. The problem is that you have no way of knowing what ethanol content of the gas is other than what it is labeled with , usually Less than 10% ethanol. So stick with the top tear stuff , and cross your fingers if you live in an area with RFG.

The BMW anti-knock sensor will just decrease engine power when you use 87. I would just stick with 91+

no, with a 525 with 215hp is not enough to take advantage of the higher octane... you will waste money and create more carbon deposit. actually usuing a higher octane than what an engine needs, will actually lose performance.
