Everyones comments on the knocking is true, but the comments about 87 and 89 being "lower quality" doesn't have any truth to them. The higher octane is just another blend of hydrocarbons to yield a slower burn time in the combustion chamber. Higher octane will cost more because of the extra steps required to produce the fuel. Just because 93 costs more than 87 DOES NOT make it a "better" or "higher quality" form of gasoline.
I always heard that the lower octane fuels are not as refined as higher octane fuel.
That's just what I heard though...

Just try running a lower quality fuel for a while.... Then let us know how long before you have Injection issues or a HPFP failure....

stick with 91' or higher, don't cheap out on the gas and ruin the engine, leased or not...give your engine and bmw the tools to perform to it's full potential..

LOL. Well, I think that definitely answers my question... Im sure 1 tank of 89 wont hurt her. I just got used to putting 89 from my last 3 cars... Will only put 91 or 93 from now on. Do you guys prefer a certain brand. I normally go to 76.

I was surprised that BP wasn't on this list. Wonder why?
