My Ride: 525d Touring M Sport E61 2009
I have a 2009 E61 525d M Sport LCI and was just wanting some clarification as to whether or not my engine has them from the factory.
I have searched the internet and some websites have said that it does and some say the 525d doesn't have them. If anyone who has the later 3L 525d has had the same question or even had them done i would be thankful for the info as i don't want to'book it in to get done only to find i have been charged for removing what wasn't even there. Is their anyway i can check without removing the manifold?
The engine in my car is the M57N2 i believe.

Your engine does not have the swirl flaps. To be 110% sure, you can check it by taking a glimpse under the intake manifold on the left side of the engine (passenger's side on RHD cars). You should be looking for a long shiny metal rod that moves the flaps. If/as you don't have the rod, then your engine does not have the flaps.
A mirror would be a good help to see under the manifold.
