since you saved $500, get a chip and sprintbooster to make up for some lost fun

will the chip affect my transmission shift timing? I checked Dinan's website for the 550/545 remap mod. It only upgrades the ECU by raising the RPM by 200 for Manual and 100 RPM for Autos + removing the speed limiter (I dont know if this mod is worth it....)

Go talk with Darwin and ask him to get a hold of Jags. He can remap your ECU with Superchips for about $800. Afterwards, go and get the the Sprint Booster. With these two mods plus your AFE CAI and RDSport cat-back exhaust, you'll have the same set up as my former 545i, which is now Darwin's. I had the SMG tranny and the shifts were lightening fast after these mods. I'm sure the regular Auto tranny in your 08 550 will be faster too.

VT is this the Superchip you're talking about? http://www.eurobahn.us/bmwsuperchips.html
38 HP gain is pretty impressive... Do you know howmuch HP gain you can get from the superchip, like the one u had on your 545?

...oh no, i am diagnosing here a big time "dissatisfaction" with your new toy - you have just forked out god knows how many thousands of your valuable money, and you are talking about mods to make up for something a sales guy screwed up. only because that guy needed to make his quota for that month, you are being deprived of a feature that by far beats any option in terms of value for money (half the price of comfort access, half price of a sun roof etc...). I have gone through what you are going through now, and i can tell you that there was no mod that really gave me the satisfaction. the only solution i would strive for is to head to that dealer again, talk to their gm and tell him how uninformed his sales staff is/was and he should now figure out a solution for you!!!!! do it now, trust me, i know what i am talking about....

To be honest, I got SAT on my car, and don't think it's any big deal. Used it a couple of times and cant feel any difference to when I just push the lever to the left and put it in to sport mode. Maybe if you _really_ know your cars, you might notice it, but talking of returning the car and swapping it seems like real overkill to me.

Maybe you go to the dealer, and ask to drive two identical cars - one with SAT and one without SAT, then make a personal decision, rather than one based on opinions from text on a computer screen which are never going to explain how it "feels".

It seems as if Russ is in the minority here. Based on the posts of others, I'd say that most of us SAT owner's clearly feel a difference in sport mode, etc. I can't speak for anyone else but if I ordered the SAT and ended up getting a normal step, it would be a deal breaker for me.

The issue here is a little less black and white though since the SAT was never ordered based on the salesman's poor product knowledge...

That's the best thing for you to do! That's how I know that I'm not missing SAT, and that it's not changing gear faster. And if it would change gear faster BMW would have separate acceleration times and fuel consumption rows in the brochure. But it looks cooler and it can be convenient to have the possibility to change gear with the paddles.

If I decide to trade in my car just because of the SAT, I will lose quite a lot of money just to have the feature....
Thinking maybe somewhere between 7-10k lost since my car would be considered as USED now... -_-;

Granted that your salesperson should have been better informed and have relayed that information to you during the purchasing process - you're slightly in the fault for not having done your research. To play devil's advocate, given the ever increasing amount of options and features in today's modern cars, it's difficult to keep up with all the technical details - even for a salesperson. And no, I'm not a car salesperson.

There is certainly truth in this statement, did the salesperson not provide a sales booklet laying out all the options? That's one of the first things my sales guy gave me.

What I have not heard from the OP is when was his car ordered. There was a window when the LCI E60 was introduced where the SAT was not yet available. Perhaps his order was placed during that time frame? The 2008 sales booklet I have shows the option but it is clearly marked as not available until June 2007 production.

And in the UK, it is only ?95 more than the standard auto - not available on the 525d though which is why I didn't get it!
