for those of you who say they feel the same.....so the regular auto will blip the throttle on downshifts too?
(that'd be nice)
No, that's a good point jet. My limited experience was focused on acceleration, not deceleration where the tranny has a chance to really downshift. Both were very smooth on the upshift. Can't attest to the regular auto blipping the throttle on downshifts...

Oh man... eeekkk... I'm sorry to hear... the Sports Automatic Transmission is a completely different animal. Its not just looks and paddles... Your salesman should be fired! If he doesnt know he's suppose to find out!

Heres a old thread regarding the Tranny... I cant seem to find BMWs Technical release on the tranny otherwise I would post it for you. I think Rudy has a copy.

I have the Sport Automatic Transmission in my 08 550-Sport with 1800 miles on it. It is clearly different than the normal automatic transmission beyond the sport button and the paddle shifters. It definitely shifts quicker than the normal automatic transmission. It is well integrated into the throttle and steering. It is a great must-have option IMO. The only downside is that gas mileage appears to suffer. However it is possible that I am driving more frequently in a sport manner. Anyway it is wonderful option. Would I trade in a new 08 BMW 550 to get it? No. Would I write the owner of the dealership a blunt letter? Yes.

My point is, to the topic starter. If you want to use the 'sport' button and the paddles, it's a loss for you not having the SAT. If not, the hardware is the same and the D mode is the same (ZF 6HP26 TU). Even the DS mode in the regular AT is very aggresive. And I don't think it would be a problem to order the SAT paddle wheel and retrofit it to the regular AT, it was done before with the pre-LCI AT.

hhmmm just a thought, Standard Automatic Transmission + Sprint booster = Sport Automatic Transmission option? Will this be the cheapest solution to not having the SAT?

I'm trying to think of a solution to improve my car that will match the SAT, since I didn't get the option

If the sprint booster does its magic like the SAT then I might decide on getting it...

The Sprint booster might help with the throttle response but it won't make the transmission shift any faster...
