Default 2008 E60 Headlight gasket

I've just completed replacing the headlight bulb (D1S) and noticed that I had a tar like sticky substance all over my gloves. Upon further inspection, I realized that the rubber gasket around the upper part of the headlight assembly (where it intersects with the hood) had degraded almost to the point of being like plumbers putty...has anyone else encountered this situation?...is that gasket replaceable as it is visible with the hood closed. Thanks in advance. I'll try to post a pic when I get an opportunity.

I just replaced the rubber gasket on my x3 with xenons, I think it's the same gasket for all the head lights, it's about $10 each on ebay. After replacing them, the hood and the headlight make a good seal now.

They're not all the same lol, why would they be?? The shapes are designed for each headlight.

You can order the part online or from dealer. Online they're about $14 or so before shipping, dealer, you're looking to get each for about $22-24.

But yes, BMW uses biodegradable material to make these parts, so that's why we have some of our crap melting and turning into goo. Damn those tree huggers.

I have noticed the same on my 07. Gets on hood and towels when washing car. Seems like a pain in the butt to open up headlights just to replace though.

I'll have to check on the e60 but when I replaced them on the x3 it took about 5 minutes to replace each - didn't have to "open" the headlights.

Thanks folks...I'll scan Ebay to see what I can come up with...if not, I have a local 3rd party shop that might be able to locate them.

looking at the headlight (I need to remove them on the near future to repair an eyebrow) had the same issue. it has become like chewing gum. Seems an easy DIY to change it, I'll take a new one from the dealer.
