Thanks luigi, I did read the warranty booklet that came with the car but there is no specific mention of light bulbs, at least I did not see any. My concern is that this gets treated like oil top offs. Neither is explicitly mentioned in the printed materials and I could see my dealer saying it is a wear and tear item not covered. Just trying to see if anyone else has had the DRL bulb go out and how their dealer handled it. If it not a warranty item, I may try to do it myself as Oversoft and stoic1 suggest...
And SA's are sometimes known to interpret the BMW Warranty Coverage as if it were a novel ... ya gotta let them know, in a firm polite manner, that you're going to be an "informed & educated" consumer! Don't get snookered by a commission hungry Service Advisor

I have an 08 535i and have over 50k on it. I was told that warranty does not cover bulbs by Shelly BMW in Buena Park, CA because it is a "wear and tear" item and my vehicle was also out of warranty by then.

It's a really easy fix. Do a search for DIY and you'll be able to fix it in 15 minutes or less. I did mine last night in about that time.

Yeah, that's the response I was worried about! But I had it done under warranty by my dealer this morning. Thanks for the response...

Glad it worked out for you ks...should have just used it as an excuse to get some white H8 bulbs/AE's

Damn, I didn't think of that! But I actually like the look of the LCI angel eyes as DRL's...

Wear and tear = Not covered: Incorrect SA response

OR throw this at them > e.g. Brakes are also wear and tear ... but if they wear before 50K they are replaced.

But since YOUR CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY at 50K+ miles you were SOL! But it could have been, OK replace them under maintenance warranty!

My Angel eye went out during the initial 4 year warranty and my dealer replaced it under warranty. You should be all set. They even replace normal wear and tear items such as windshield wipers (twice a year) and brakes during the first 4 years/50K miles.

This morning, I also got the message that my right-side DRL had failed. Sure enough, it doesn't illuminate. As far as the warranty goes, bulbs have always been included in the US "free maintenance" warranty. The best way I've heard it described is the way one of the sales people at my dealer explained it years ago... "The warranty covers everything but gas and tires!"

Agreed Rudy, and that is they way my dealer handled it. But then my dealer also tops off oil and coolant for free while others charge for these services. My only concern was that my dealer might go this route on the DRL. Needless to say my fears were unfounded...

Yep, covered. It is a $30 plus item. Windshield wipers are covered also.
