Default 2008 bmw 550i engine sputtering

Hi guys,

Hopefully you guys can help me out. Today when I was driving out of nowhere the car has some lights that popped up, the tracking control, brake light, CEL, and all the msgs in iDrive attached in the picture. After this happened the car sputtered and would not let me go over 2k rpm. I managed to drive home by putting in manual mode and was able to keep shifting up right when it bogged. Drove it home and came back out about 30mins later and the car was driving fine but still has the CEL. Even though the CEL was on, there's no error in iDrive this time, it had All System OK msg or something like that. Took it to Autozone and got the P1637 code. Right after that I drove home and about 1min later the CEL was gone as well. Then I ended up driving it around for a while then parked it for about an hr and came out the same thing happened again. All lights mentioned came back on and received the same msg in iDrive. I haven't had a chance to pull the code again. Anyone ever had this issue or something similar that can chime in a bit?

Thanks,
Ryan

***Update***
Came out this morning crank the car on and it seems to run fine still with check engine light. I didn't do anything and just left for work with another car.

Google is your friend. All of these are throttle position sensor related. Did you just change your oil immediately prior to these popping up? Saw one thread somewhere that some of these sensors are near the oil filter on a different model BMW.

Trust me I google way before I posted it but to answer your question, no I didn't change oil. Also for someone with this problem on 2008 550i, I think it is TSB- SIB122609. It said it is a the wire harness, EDK harness Part #12 51 7 602973. I don't know, will go to the dealership later today to see what is going on.

Do you have a link to the SIB?

Keep us posted on what you find. I'm interested to hear the outcome. Good luck.

Ok so I went to the stealership and they wanted $149 for diagnose. I was like ok, forget that and went ahead and bought the EDK harness ($22 as much as an oil filter, why not?) mentioned above. Went home followed the guide from the SIB to replace the harness. It is the one right below the throttle body if you look at the car from the front. So I cut the old harness and crimped and soldered the new harness in and that was it. Drove it for roughly 50 miles already without having any of the symptoms. So I'm just crossing my fingers and hope it is the culprit.
