well i have been reading these forums for quite some time now. just decided to take the time and say hello to everyone. im a previous owner of a 2005 545i and a current owner of a 2008 535i. i jsut find it interesting how everyone in here is such a hardcore v8 fan. . have read a couple of threads of people going at it as to which car is better the v8 or the 535.

i believe both cars are great. i loved my 545i v8 and now i love my 535i.

i love to read e60 performance specs. but havent seen too many here about the newer models. just curious if anyone has tested their 550 or 535 1/4 mile 0-60 etc.

i got myself a gtimer the other day. tried it out a few times. dont know how accurate it is. i did only a couple of quick runs didnt want to get pulled over. got 0-60 in about 5.6 twice and my third run was 5.39.

i know bmw underates their cars just curious to see actual driver specs.

The 535 is a great choice, and we are not all V8 guys. Not until the TT V8 arrives anyway.

As for the 2008 535i being quicker than the 2007 550i, that is possible. on the 535 1/4 mile (0.4 km) in 15.5s. this is on manual transmission.could be higher depends on driver. maybe get atleast a straight 15s. manual transmission (geartrag) the 545i pulled off a 0-60-mph time of 5.3 seconds and reached the quarter mile in 13.8 sec. personally i feel the 535i has more potential due to it's bi-turbo setup;vishnu chip does wonders. but the 545i can make more power with less stress. either way i'm a die-hard turbo fan.

Yeah, I have stayed away from the 535 vs. 550 debates as I think it is pointless. Everyone buys car based on personal needs and preferences which vary greatly between individuals. I drove both the 535 and 550 before settling on my 550. I freely admit the sports package on the 550 was appealing though you can do this on a 535 as well, just done by the dealer or third party rather than the factory. I also like the new rims on my 550 but again, something easily replicated on a 535. One deciding factor for me was some stories about early 335's having some issues with the twin turbo engine though that seems to have been resolved by the time the engine was introduced in tht 535.

Bottom line, enjoy your car!! Its a great choice and you will be extremely pleased, just as I am by my choice. They are both great cars!

I think the early 335 steptronics did not come equipped with an oil cooler and that caused the car to go into limp-mode until the oil temps came back down. All 535 were equipped with the oil coolers.

Yes, I was aware of that, just wasn't going into the details. I did emphasize that the issue had been resolved...
