Hey guys, i tried searching on the forums but i couldn't quit see my exact problem on here. I had an oil change today at firestone, only because i had a 30 dollar coupon haha. I got the full synthetic oil change. On my drive home i was checking the idrive, (not pro, no navi) and i went to the oil part and it says now that my car has the bare minimum oil and should add a quart soon, and also says i should change my oil in 3000 miles. Are these settings that need to be reset by the dealership? I know for a fact that firestone did in fact put oil in my car because when i popped the hood there was oil splatter everywhere and a cap resting on the air filter....Clumbsy and lazy and very sloppy, last time i go there with or without coupons you can bet that. But on topic should i take it to the dealership to reset the oil level and what not? Thanks in advance!!!

Most likely they did not put enough oil in your car! Get your car on level ground and follow the procedure for checking your oil. After you have the correct amount of oil in the car you can search for the procedure on how to reset the oil inspection.

I'm not sure of the exact oil capacity, perhaps take a look in your owners manual. The system should tell you that you need to add oil. Mine does this one qt thing as it getting near its service. I take mine in to the dealer to have changed and this will be my last one, so next one I'll be doing it... My friend changes his often and has never had any problems. But, I'm thinking the oil capacity might be around 6 but you need to verify and NOT overfill !!!

Looks like you got what you paid for.
5 quarts is definetly low. 6 cylinder cars usually hold around 7 quarts.
Plus I wonder if they even put synthetic it. Did you see if they changed the filter?

To save $30 ... and possibly destroy a $5000 engine

I put in 7Qtz of oil in my 2004 525I thats what the owners manual says, so your 5 Qtz is low. You can reset oil yourself by turn the key to on position then hold the odometer button on the speedometer till the oil sign shows up in center of the speedometer then release odometer button then press it again to reset then confirm. Here is the link for better explaination https://5series.net/forums/topic/978...-i-reset-this/
