Sorry had a mistype there, was saying usa not use
Dealer here has had it confirmed to them by BMW South Africa that the 335i will be a 3.0L turbo
Word on the 3 Series forums is that USA dealers have been told the USA version of the 335i will NOT be turbo but a 3.5L
[/quote]
It's a long time ago since BMW did a turbo gasoline engine...
In the early '80 the 7-series E23/745i had a sixinline turbo with a 3.43 litre engine.
It gave 252 hp at 4900 rpm and had a torque of 380 Nm at 2200 rpm.
But as I recall BMW did racing engines also for the F1 team TAG McLaren and did win.
This must have happened in the early '90's?

Could the 535i simply be a USA only model given that you guys do not have a 540i like the Europeans do ?
I mean if they released a 535i it would have to have at least 30-40 more hp than the 530i. This takes it awefully close to the 540i which has 306hp and would therefore be nonsensical to have both in the European market together. Not logical at all for Europe at least.....

I'd be shocked if it didn't hit 300hp or more in stock form.
For as much hand-wringing as the decision not to bring the 540i to the US has caused, it certainly makes sense now. If you have the 535i, the small V8 seems redundant. Even if the 535i has fewer hp, the reduced weight should make it a very formidable offering. It only needs to beat the 530i by 2 or 3 tenths of a second to 60mph to equal the 540i.

Also does anyone know why BMW decided not to release the 540i in the US market ? Creates a huge gap.

Right, I purposely didn't comment on the Euro market, but you're likely correct.
While we don't know why the US was excluded, the prospect of a 535i with the same performance potential certainly sheds some light on the thinking that led to the decision.
...and I'd take the turbo - so I guess BMW has their markets solidly figured out.
Ready yourself for numerous annoying threads titled: "My 535i just smoked a..." or "My newly-modded 535i has 400hp" or well, you get the idea...
Nice specs on your car BTW.

It's a number name, or you can say competition for engin size.
When MB has E350, Lexus has IS350 (GS300 will soon become 350), Infiniti have G35/M35, and Acura RL (3.5L). BMW can't stay behind.

525i/530i/550i 3/06 to 7/06 production = 2007 US MODEL YEAR?
1st of all why so many 2006's for the 525i/530i?
The 2006 550i will only be produced 6 months, 9/05 to 2/06?![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/rolleyes.gif)
Would it be possible BMWNA will only offer the 530i/535i/550i or 525i/535i/550i?
