Here's wishing for a 535i. I love my current V8 but I still have a warm place in my heart for the big sixes and the lighter weight.

Bmw for the last years always has been true to na engines. When u even think of bmw petrol engines na comes naturallly into ur head. IMO and i wish it remains this way...turbo or any kind of forced induction has to stay away from bmw's petrol engines.
It is like a myth or a legend. It's a shame, if u ask me, about the m engines, wich are really pices of art. Let's think about the winner of them all...the 3.2 liter straight 6 from the m3. 343bhp from a 3.2 and it's na. Most of the competition is around 250-260 bhp at that engine size. The CSL got eben 360bhp and that is really astonishing. Intrudicing turbo to a petrol engine now would in a way be a treason to the NA philosophy.

My hope for a 535i would be normally aspirated. I don't care for turbo's. A normally aspirated 3.2L-3.5L engine would be nice in the 5er. And it would make sense in the lineup.

But 2 turbo's like the 535d!!!

I think turbo engines can be made to reduce emissions easier than NA too...

No way are they going to redo the 5-series in 2007 -- it just doesn't make sense...

I don't think they will redo anything.
The only thing that I read from the articel is that starting in March/April 06 they will start making 2007's - just like last year - in 3/05 they made 2006's - new engine and x drive - and it sounds ike there is a California emissions thing - so they will change that and call it a 2007.

I know it doesn't.

But as a 545 owner a 540 sounds more attractive then the 550.

[Ed note: posted by UURonL, but accidentally sent as "Report to Moderator"]

Having owned a modified turbo car, and witnessed countless others with heavy modifications - I'd -much- rather have a turbo petrol 535i. The car will easily eclipse the 550i after mere pocket change is invested.

No issues with low end torque on the N52, so I'm not so sure it needs twin sequentials, but it couldn't hurt. It would actually be a lot easier to mod if it didn't have a fancy dual setup.

Google Supra Turbo. Many removed the sequential system, opting for 1 large one. It was not uncommon to see more than 800hp out of those cars, and they were inline 6s.

A little closer to our cars, the previous gen S4 could take a 100hp+ increase very easily. I know a few guys who did this. The car is scary.

Sorry, I think I just accidentally reported one of the responses here... it's early - I clicked on the wrong thing. Please ignore.

I personally hope they release a turbo N52. I think that in stock form it will probably be formidable, and with a modification here and there it should easily eclipse the 550i. I've owned a modified turbo car, and known many others with heavily modified cars. It's insanely easy to make hp. Look at the previous gen Audi S4. It can easily gain 100+ hp with almost no investment, and no invasive modifications. Maybe they'll finally add the M-sport kit with this "sporting" model???

Thanks Das. I've disabled the loading of images in my browser (until the security issues get patched). Hunting for the correct text hyperlink in these graphical environments has been "interesting". I got it wrong just now.
