Since a couple of days my 2007 550i with SMG transmission has started to downshift in a rough manner from second to first gear (it kind of bucks and lurches). It happens when I slow down and the SMG automatically shifts down to first a few seconds before I've come to a full stop. I've read that folks with an M5 who experience similar issues have reset their transmission (so that it relearns the driver's driving behavior) and shifts became smooth again. Does anybody know if this is the issue and also how to reset the SMG transmission on a 2007 550i?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Try the SMG reset, get up to like 50-55mph, and pull both paddles towards you for like 3 seconds. I think that's it...

Is this supposed to work for a 2005 smg ?
I did it and it feels like the shifts are better and the 2nd to 1st is way smoother

Am i imagining things

No, I dont think so... haha even if it does he missed a step...

for the M5 you need to go above 35 mph, shift into Neutral THEN pull both paddles back for 3 seconds...

so you missed the shift into neutral part... I dont think it works the same with the regular SMG... it didnt work with my MY05 545... but its worth a try... try it again and report back.

It doesnt give you any indication that it performed the "reset" so I would just try it a couple times...

Thought as much, will try and get back to you,
when you had the 545 did it jerk forward when it down shifted
into 1 when coming to a stop ?
It does it only when Im slowing down and I downshift from considerable speed
when I'm doing it from a slower speed it does not do this

Just read the OP's post again, that's exactly what I'm expriencing also.

The dealer reset my smg some months ago when the alternator
crash caused it to lose all memory and it was smooth for
a bit but is slowly starting to act up again at times.

I took the car to the dealer to have the transmission checked out (along with a window rattle I have been experiencing). The transmission is like butter now, so smooth! The dealer states they (abbreviated quote) "Road tested vehicle, interrogated fault memory, no faults found, performed transmission teach-in and retaught transmission shifting points". The SA claimed that the SMG continuously adjust to your driving habits so I'm a little concerned that the issue might return but so far, so good!
