Good to know everything is back working. I've had my thermo stuck open but the only thing it caused was no heat.

 

see that's strange I had heat tho now I notive it gets a lot warmer since new thermo, and I can definatly hear the fan kick on an off like it used to so im pretty sure everything with the temp of the car is fine now.

 

I'm not saying it was cold but it definitely was not hot like it should be. I noticed a big difference in the rear vents

 

Greetings guys, this is my first post right here. So my 525i 2006 have almost the same overheating issue. What were done is as below:

• New coolant hose O-ring (all), and therefore the leak is fixed.
• Cooling system is flushed.
• New coolant with 50+50 mixture.
• Bleeding was done (3 times), just to make sure there's no air.

Now first drive for 15 minutes was fine, temperature was sitting around 95 degree C and immediately after that the temperature continue to rise until 120 degree C then only the fan spins at max speed to cool down to around 115 degree C and it would rise quickly again to 120 throwing message of temperature / engine overheat (couldn't really remember what was it called). The fan works fine as it spins moderately when the car hits around 94 degree C (with AC off) and from this I assume that my thermostat is working fine. (I could be wrong). Now this left me thinking will it be a bad coolant temp sensor as in it is inaccurate? It's very difficult to find E60 parts in my area so almost everything has to be shipped. There is no code shown with OBD diagnostic.

 

Are you reading the ODB codes with a BMW specific code reader? It could be that your water pump is starting to die. I would expect some codes, but maybe not with a generic code reader.

 

Hi, I use thinkdiag mini and it has BMW software inside which reads specific codes for BMWs, as tested before it can throw code for my gearbox bridge port failure so I assume it is okay haha. As for the water pump I did the bleeding with the holding down the accelerator pedal down for 10 seconds method and it runs the electric pump to bleed so I assume that it is fine? (I could be wrong tho) Thank you very much for the response, cheers!

 

If you heard the pump running, I'd say you did it right. You might want to run it again. My N52 engine car had a failing pump for about 6 months. It finally gave the yellow iDrive waring one day saying "drive moderately". On the other hard, wife's N52 car hit the red waring all of a sudden with a totally failed water pump and the red iDrive warning "pull over immediately" or something like that.

Ok so I've finally got my temperature sensor and it seems to fix it. Took a long while though.
