Since the xi models aren't going into production into April/May, I decided I would rather have the car for May/June than waiting until June/July for the car.? In any event, the following are the options I ordered:
Orient Blue Metallic
Anthracite Maple Wood Trim
Gray Leather
Sport Package
Premium Package
Premium Sound Package
Cold Weather Package
SMG
Rear Seat Heating
PDC
Xenon
GPS
Satellite Radio
Power Rear Sunshade
Front Comfort Seats
Split folding rear seats

[/quote]I have owned two E46s ('99 323i, '02 325xi - current). I decided on holding off on the 545i, HUD, Active Cruise Control, and all-wheel drive for a number of reasons.
In the DC metro area and with my style of driving, there are very few situations where you would want the extra HP - granted the extra torque of the V8 would be nice in certain situations but overall I felt I would never really appreciate it as much as someone who lives in a more rural area. The same thing goes for the HUD and active cruise control - the number of long distance trips in my car have decreased steadily over the last few years. The standard cruise control works just fine and the HUD seems more gimmick than functional -- how hard is it to look down at the speedometer or GPS for a few milliseconds?
The 325xi's all-wheel drive is good but I experienced 4 sensor failures between the DSC and all-wheel drive that caused failure in both components. In 38 months of owning my 325xi, the all-wheel drive was truly useful three times. I could have easily stayed home in these situations but decided to go out anyway. Additionally, fuel economy and overall ride suffer (no sport suspension, more weight from the xi trans).
I was going to go for the nasca leather/ventilated seats but for the 4K+ for both it seemed unreasonable.

Agree 100% - HUD is tremendous, especially for the NAV directions.

My Ride: 2010 Lexus HS 250h...looking to get a 2011 535xi
I just thought I'd reset a question I asked a long time ago:
Other than the larger engines and availability of AWD, does anyone know of any other (even if minor) changes for the upcoming 2006 5-series? I just love hearing about the little things...they help tide me over until I can place my order...
