My Ride: 2006 BMW 530xi 6MT
Model Year: 2006
Engine: N52
Default

I have had my 530xi since late July. 3,000 miles on it now. Great car. I have a manual transmission. Never experienced the problem mentioned here. Also, as far as I know, DSC+ is on every 530xi/525xi ever built. Ordered mine and it was built in late May. Mine has hill-start assist for sure - the hill-start feature of DSC+ is clearly detectable. I assume the rest of DSC+ is also present. Non-xi 5's of that production date did not include DSC+. Even the owner's manual talks about "starting assistant" on page 117 for 525xi and 530xi.

You may be right about DSC+ on the xi models, but I thought DSC+ was different/upgraded on September production xi models (along with the rest of the non-xi models that just began receiving it)...in any case, we need to get a body of information together about vehicles with automatic transmissions, as it seems that vehicles with manual transmissions do not have this problem.

I still would maintain that this is somehow related to Soft Stop, though that could be a completely incorrect theory.

Hello Tom,

I am glad that you are not experiencing this issue and the 530xi is a great vehicle!

The link below takes you to a PDF file showing the September Build updates. DSC has been upgraded with additional features and maybe these new features are what are causing my problem or what BMW says is normal.

Glad to hear it seems to be going away, which is in line what others have said...

If it keeps up, though, I'd be interested to see if disabling DSC on the center console actually has the affect of also disabling ALL the DSC/DSC+ features...if it did, that might be a way to confirm that it's Soft Stop and/or DSC+ related...

I have driven around 2500+ miles so far and dont remember to have experienced the problem ever (Touch wood). Probably it did exist earlier as some people mention it disappears after a while. In the 1st week of my ED, I drove 1300 miles and with all the driving and excitement and german beer, I might have not been that sober to notice it

HA! I wish I were drunk not to notice this issue. Maybe it really has something to do with this new DSC+ and slow / confort stop feature in the new Setember builds if you have not noticed this problem.

I wonder if the E90s have this issue too, since they have the same system. Thanks again for chiming in.

Why don't you try turning DSC/DTC completely off and see if this still happens? (Press and hold the button on the console until it registers as turned off.)
