It may be possible to get a goodwill repair given that the car has only just gone out of warranty. Many manufacturers will honor some or all of the cost in cases where the warranty coverage has just expired. If the car shows no other signs of significant abuse (and it is very hard to truly abuse a car with Steptronic) it may be an avenue worth pursuing.

You are right. There is no harm in trying.

You simply cannot overrev the engine with Steptronic. I know from experience at the meet as I was doing everything I could to extract maximum performance out of my engine trying to keep up with the M5s.

Well, you'd have to ask the M5 drivers.

Most of the roads where we were letting it run were twisties. In those, the M5's power advantage over the 550 is not a big deal because you can't fully unleash the power. But get to a staight, where you can unleash all of the bhp and you, in a 550, can't accelerate as fast as they can although the 550 is powerful enough not to not get left behind by a shameful amount.
