Hey thanks for the info. I am not mechanically inclined, but that job is a little out of my comfort zone lol. Will shop around and see what I can find, but again thanks for the info!

Extended warranty refused to cover this (I was surprised by the way)
What are your opinions, if I drive with this leak, can this affect car's performance in any way or get worth?

Thank you
There is a huge recall announced by BMW today about the leaky vacuum pump. Mine is a candidate (9/2004 Prod). I am sure you fall in the range too. There's already a couple posts on the subject. Wait for the letter in the mail.

Hmm, I'm trying to put the pump back in, but my camshaft slot is almost horizontal so when I place the pump back in, the metal flap protruding from the vacuum pump angles downward from gravity, not allowing me to insert and seat it fully. Is it possible to hand crank the engine so that the camshaft slot is in the vertical position (without having to remove all the spark plugs preferably)? Thanks all.

You need to turn the crank by hand with a ratchet to get the slot vertical. I think it takes a 26mm socket. Turn it clockwise and you will see the camshaft turn to line up. It is next to impossible to put the pump back on without the slot being vertical.

I was intimidated about this project on my car too, but 800 bucks! Just bought the orings from BMPDesign for 18 bucks(front and back), and the tork socket set from Autozone for 19. Also a small amount of grease & a new hose clamp for the hose attached to the top of vacuum pump. Was able to do the job easily in about an hour. So have faith. Just don't pull the hose off the pipe attached to the power steering reservoir that is attached across the front from side to side on the pump bracket closest to you. There is a small bolt that looses it on the pump bracket. Just saying.....kinda messy and the fluid is hard to find.

The TIS Instructions are here. http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/07/45/33 It was a great help!

BMP Design Order Numbers - both orings.
