2005 530i Pinion Seal
#1
I have a 2005 530i.
I am not driving the car right now as I have other vehicles.
I am told my rear pinion seal has a leak on the diff and the cannon plug on the tranny is leaking.
Do you have to remove the differential to replace the front pinion seal or can this be accomplished on the ground?
Any thoughts on the trans issue?

I think the drive shaft will need to be disconnected to replace that seal on the diff. I had the seal on the output shaft replaced on my '06 530i.
About cannon plug, I think you are referring to the bushing on the electrical connector to the mechatronics. Dropping the trans pan makes it easier to replace that bushing; however, it's not absolutely necessary, if you have small hands. If the trans service needs to be done, you might as well drop the pan (replace the pan/filter) and change the bushing and replenish the trans fluid.
