Does anyone have a problem with their 2004 525 BMW in any of these three areas;

- going downhill, transmission causes lurching of passingers in excessive manner

- am/fm/cd static that is intermittent

- swaying or fish-tailing feeling at highway speeds

welcome aboard, bmw2004525 ! i don't have any of your problems but the static seems like a s/w update issue.

Thank you for your input. I was told that it may be an s/w issue. The service manager I am dealing with seems to be in another world, even though there is a BMW bulletin on this.

well, if there is a service bulletin on this, they have to update the s/w no matter he knows what he's doing or not <_<. after all, he just puts everything in the work order and the tech does the job .

i might have the 1st problem but for the rest no.

I guess all the problems can be fixed with software upgrade.

Welcome to the forum,

I have a 2004 525 and I have not experienced any of your problems.

The car has behaved perfectly and not required any warranty work to be carried on it. It is just a dream machine to drive.

I'm not alone!

I've had my 2004 545i since 3/2004. Ever since I receive it, I've noticed a problem (has been impossible to reproduce for my BMW service manger) that I've attributed to the transmission. It definitely seems related to going up and down hill. The result is that when I pause at a stop sign on an incline (either up or down), I sometimes (not always) feel a massive lurch as I begin accelerating. A few times it has been quite startling to my passengers. Once, I even heard my neck snap. To this point, I've gone through several (3?) software updates. I've definitely noticed changes in the shift points, but none of the updates have fixed the problem.

I'm glad to hear someone else talk about the same issue. Anyone else?

Forgot to mention that I've also experienced the swaying/fishtailing that you've mentioned. My service manager says that this is "normal" for cars with wide tires. Having never had a car with wide tires before, I couldn't argue this point. Does this sound right to those who know better?

Yes on the first two. DEFINITELY. No on the last one.

Fishtailing = oversteering.
You shouldn't have anything like that. Only if you're driving in the truck lane on the highway...
