Default 2004 E60 Import - Software upgrade

Hi all,

New to this site and looking for some advice. I'm based in Dubai and have just bought a lovely second hand 530i E60. The problem is that its a Japanese import and I've been told I need to get a software upgrade??

Can someone advise if I need to go to the dealer or if I can download it online then upload in the car? If so, where would I plug it in?

Looking forward to your advice

Cheers

Jon

PS - awesome car!!!!

software upgrade? I think the only major thing that you'll need is to change the setting of the iDrive so it tunes into the FM of your local area...

This requires ncsexpert and an OBD cable

Probably going to need a nav disc too. Who told you you'll need a software upgrade? Is that all they said?

Thanks guys, awesome help. Think i can manage that by myself. Download ncs expert onto mem stick and plug it into OBD cable port next to the bonnet release. Go through iDrive system and upload?

Will have to buy satnav disk then.

Yes, the stupid dealer I purchased it off said I would have to upgrade software, not bimmer dealer. Benefit of the doubt, he probably meant what you gents are talking about.

Just out of interest, any of you experienced a small oil leak from bottom of the engine. Cannot find the leak anywhere on top half, its only very small but want to check it out. Got a feeling its the value gasket. Common problem?

Cheers in advance

Jon

I don't know what that first part means.
Valve cover gasket is a common leak point.

thanks guys. Took the beast into a recommended garage and it turns out it needs, new Valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket sump gasket, pressure value, vent pipe, connecting pipe, hose, vacuum hose, intake gasket set, v belt and AC belt.

To be fair the AC was leaking as well so just getting everything sorted out. Would do it myself but I dont have the time. Total cost quoted is $1361....?
