Do you think I could have a clogged catalytic converter? If it is just one of them that would explain the misfires on the one side i think and why it won't start, if exhaust cant flow out.

Anybody know an easy way to test those?

The electrical issue is still beyond me though.

At this point I feel the most important thing is to work out where the DME error is coming from. That was not there in your original set of errors, and it is (presumably) the reason why you now have a complete non-starter. You are not going to be able to sort out anything else until you sort out that. Beyond that, I am still learning these cars myself; hopefully someone else chimes in.

How did you adequately heck the wiring when its all covered?

I remember when I did a similar thing and said yep, all wires look fine. Sure, up until I unwrapped them all and found a literal nightmare of exposed wires.

As I see it, the DME error can only be the DME or the wiring. Wiring is by far the more likely of the two. You need to clear that error first.

Why would you think the cat is clogged. You would have to drive the car for a really long time with misfires for you to have that issue. Only you know the answer to that. Him any miles are on the odometer again? This seems to be something easy and something being over looked.

My advise it to stoop everything and read the actual BMW errors. Right now it's just guessing going on and P codes is not going to help solve anything

@donpb you know what I would suggest. Lol

I know and wholeheartedly agree with you @seanjordan20 if people want to buy the d-can cable, own a laptop, use that mult-part installer and then learn ista / inpa.

If you're like me and keep a reader in your glove box, then a no learning curve required compact device is for you. Example: Plug into obd2 port and select auto scan. Done.

I also agree with #66 above as with INPA, or similar you can reset adaptations, which at this point may just be the thing that will get you going again.

I have been experiencing some strange engine issues that so far have disappeared after resetting my dme adaptation with INPA.

It is with a heavy heart I thank you all for your support and advice. I took the car to my mechanic friend to look at and it turns it the engine actually jumped the timing and broke something in the engine.

As of now the engine needs to be rebuilt or replaced, and as of now I do not have the experience nor cash for something like that. Unfortunately I may end up parting her out, the car was in great condition otherwise, I am very upset I have to let her go.

Hopefully when I am older I can afford another BMW but for now I have to part ways. BMW4life.

Sorry to hear that. I would be interested to know how your friend diagnosed this.
