Hello to all....I have a 2004 530I with the 5 Spoke Wheels, and basically have a simple question. My front rims have developed nasty black spots (about the size of pin marks) all over the rims. I assumed this was break dust and I could easily wipe away with some wheel cleaner, but It seems to be a little tougher than I thought. They will not come off !!! My second guess was well maybe its tar so I used bug remover nothing! They seem to be adhered to the wheel. Any help on getting rid of these spots would be extremely helpful.....I have tried...BMW Soap; BMW Wheel Cleaner. Meguiars wheel cleaner, Meguiars Bug and Tar, I even tried WD40 (off someones recomendation) NOTHING! What can I use that will not ruin the rims! Thank! J.B.

Try using clay. If you post some pics, you may get some better responses.

Brake dust is a common problem. Try searching the Detailing forum to see what others have done to get the spots off.

I posted this before and have recieved negative feedback for it, but...
I was in the exact same situation - nothing worked
so I used soft scrub - worked like a charm - rims shined, but there is concern that it is an abrasive (which it is - though a fine one) - so I have been hesitant to do it again

Now I found that dish soap works well, but you have to be vigilant

So if you feel brave, then you can try that

I plan to rotate my tires use the soft scrub for the tough spots on the inside of the wheels

The brake dust has been the bane of my existence - bit once I got then clean keepong them clean was not as tough and I have not had to resort to the abrasive again
