I've had my 545i now for 3 weeks so I thought those that are considering purchasing would be interested in my first impressions.
6. This thing sucks gas. I know it's still in the break in period and it will get better, but it still sucks gas like a SUV.
11. still has no more back seat room than a honda accord. MUCH bigger than my E46.
I agree on all comments except 6 and 11.
6-I feel the car is economical for a 330hp V8, I get 18 to 20 city, I don't know of any SUV that can do that, even my in line 6 X5 was worse than this.
11-Back seat room is more than a Honda Accord.

My Ride: Arrived 3 June 2005: 2005 545i - Orient Blue, Black interior, Sport, Steptronic, Cold Weather, NAV, Sirius, Logic7, Comfort Seats, Sunshades. What a glorious ride!
Outstanding post, Rodney! I only disagree with your comments about A/C (mine has been just fine in the mid-90s humidity that currently plagues Ohio), and about fuel mileage (how good mileage does one expect from an engine this powerful?).
Very thoughtful post. Glad things are starting off so well for you and your e60!

I'll let you know whether I forgive my dealer for giving me a *@!# Corolla loaner when I find out whether they're going to give me fresh Dunlop runflats at my 12,000 mile oil/filter change (only about 7,000 on the summer tires, and they are a little louder).

My Ride: 2004 545i - 6 speed manual (July 04 build), silver-grey/black, sports package std equipment (18", active roll, active steering, adaptive headlights), premium sound, bluetooth enabled, folding rear seat, lumbar, 3m hood/bumper protective film, rear tint, euro reflectors.
Good post. Regarding the gas fill problem. I have only experienced it at one station and if I am not parked close enough to the pump. If there is any pressure on the hose, it will want to pop a bit.
I would dis-agree with the gas mileage. I own a Yukon XL Denali and I was impressed by the gas mileage. However, I do a lot of highway driving. Around the city, 325hp will suck as much gas as you want to throw at it during the green light starts (which will equal the SUV's) if you romp on it.
Take it on a trip and notice that you can get the advertised 26mpg setting your cruise at 80mph.
FYI: I had a X3 3.0 as a loaner and it got about the same as my 545i (90% highway, 10% around town) and the power was no where near the same.

I think in Pennsylvania, it's the law that self-service stations remove the little lever that allows you to fuel the car without squeezing the pump.?
That said, once in a while you find a station or a specific pump that still has the lever installed ...................

Nope most gas stations here in Philly have hold levers that will hold the gas pump handle in the squeezed position.

1) You don't get used to the power, your neck muscles just develop more...
17) Power headrests = functional and safer when used in conjunction with seat memory settings...

My Ride: 2005 545i with everything
Well to be fair my criticism of the mileage is based mostly on city driving, and mostly with a heavy rt. foot.
As for my comments on the AC, it definitely is better than the AC on my E46 which always seemed like it was struggling to keep up. I think it's a combination of the black interior and the fact that it has been 110 degrees here in Fresno for the past week so if oyu leave your car parked outdoors for any length of time it is absolutely baking inside and takes about 15 minutes of driving to cool off.
