As I've understood it; the 19" aren't RFT.
They come in both versions...

He showed me, and obviously right at the start of the kerbing where there was a chip, there was a 4cm split in the side of the tyre. He was able to stick a screwdriver in and show me the inside of the tyre quite easily - thank god he spotted it.
I had a similar experience with one of my 19" (nonRFT), but I at least could drive 6000 kms before it happend.

Maybe God doesn't like 19"...?!?

Sorry when I say "not available", I mean by BMW. I wouldn't trust a 3rd party one like this ... and they only seem to be covering tyres, not wheels aswell...

In the UK, if you order 19" wheels, you get non-runflats. I am sure you can buy aftermarket, but we're talking about "from the factory" spec.

Went in to the BMW garage today to book the car in to have the brake squeak looked at. They came for a test drive with me and agreed they would fix it under warranty no matter what was causing it, they said it wasn't causing a problem but was just an annoying noise, but said it definitely shouldn't do it and they'd sort it out without quibble. As I'd hoped/expected. Whilst I was there, I said "can you refurbished kerbed alloys" - yes, ?65+vat. So I booked it in for that - the wheel specialist popped out just to check the damage before committing to the price, and said "do you know you've got a cracked tyre?". "No" I said. He showed me, and obviously right at the start of the kerbing where there was a chip, there was a 4cm split in the side of the tyre. He was able to stick a screwdriver in and show me the inside of the tyre quite easily - thank god he spotted it. I'm about to drive 150 miles on the motorway this evening, can only imagine that thing exploding at a hundred and twen... erm seventy miles an hour. So, ?235 later, I have a new tyre, having had the car less than two weeks At least the brake noise and the damage from the alloy will be gone in a few days.
It's a pisser alright, but like you said, thank God he spotted it. You could have had wife and kids in the car and something goes 'bang' at 80mph. Not good.
I've had a similar type of injury to one of my 19" F1 GS's. I now always make a point of giving my tyres a good looking over whenever I wash the car (which is usually once a week.....gets me out of addressing the 'jobs to-do' list from the other half!!)

Completely changing the subject, keep us up to date if you decide to try the Sprintbooster. I've been toying with the idea myself for my 530d.

Simon.
