Was up everyone one,

Just recently for the past week, My traction and brake light have been coming on at the same time. The traction message is reading, Driving Stability. Reduced driving stability in curves. Drive moderately!

The brake message reads, Start-Off assistance. Start-off assistance inactive Caution, vehicle may roll back!

Anyone have any ideas of what this could be? Is a big issue or just a minor problem.

Thanks for everyone's help and info.

I had those errors a few months ago. It was the steering angle sensor. BMW replaced the sensor and the problem went away. You will also notice the blinker does not stop blinking when you complete a turn....have to turn it off manually. If you are under warranty take it to BMW. Otherwise you are looking at a $500 part+labor (programming) repair.

How many miles are you at? This error occurred for me at 45k miles.

I looked at my repair sheet and this is the sensor, SZL, that was replaced. # 61-31-9-111-997.

Yeah I am approaching 41k. I have noticed when I turn the blinker must be shut off manually. I will try and get a quote from a dealer, but I will most likely take it to a euro repair shop. My warranty is over  Thanks for your help and info, I really appreciate it.

I had the same issue recently and was ready to take it in. I was also due for a new battery. I put in the new battery myself and all the error messages went away.

how about you just reset angle sensor and then reinitialize steering sensor? if you have active steering, after power failure (disconnecting battery) you must reinitialize the steering sensor. if you have power steering, its worth trying first too.

When so many assorted warnings start to appear my first thought is BATTERY issue. If your car is still under warranty (hope and pray) get to a dealer to diagnose the issues.

you sure can. Autozone has a direct replacement. Get the GOLD battery and compare the Ah & CCA numbers to the new battery. I did this and have had no problems. Dealer cost was $650.00 !!!! If you get a battery with different numbers you may need to program it to the car, otherwise a simple registration should do ya. Some register and some don't, an Indy shop is cheapest.
