My Ride: 2005 545i - Black on Black, Maple Anthracite. Cold, Premium, Sport, Nav, Heads Up Display, Logic 7, Power Rear Sunshade.

Hello all,

I bought a 2005 545i 2 months ago that has 27,000 miles on it now. I love the car, will be in a BMW for now on I'm sure. My question is: I-Drive says I have 6K until my next oil change. I get to take it in at 30K right? I don't have to wait until the i-drive says so?

Also, any advise on what I should ask for. For instance, I have had 3 minor "transmission slams" from a rolling stop and I have a slight vibration that seems come from the front right and goes away most of the time. I think I have updated software (perspective view on nav and gray screen) from what I've read but I've never been to BMW service and want to make sure I get what I need before 50K.

By the way it's not a CPO car so I might look at an after market extended warranty.

Thnaks in advance for any advice.

Why would you want to take it in at 30K if the iDrive says it can go to 33k?
Just stick to what the iDrive tells you it needs. That's the whole point of condition based servicing.

I have read threads about having your oil changed more often than the 15K recommendation. I want to keep this car long term and would rather take it in at 30K than wait till 33K.

same here. i am going to do more frequent than what bmw says.
now that bmw has to pay they changed the interval to 15k.
but when we had to pay for it, the same car required it to be changed every 3500-5000 miles.
it's funny how the tables turn and tunes change.

You can get an oil change under the free maintenance if it has been 1yr since your last regardless of your mileage

Yes but i don't think they will cover your additional frequent oil changes. Unless the CBS says it needs an oil change BMW won't change it for free.

Correct. It has to be indicated on your check control display that you are due or has to be a year since your last one. Oil changes outside of those parameters you must pay for.

I never go with the I drive to change the oil.
I always change oil every 8k km that will keep the engine in tiptop.
I alway say to people which cost more changing oil or changing engine.
$94us to change oil will make the engine last alot longer and you will get mor mpg out of it too
