I've got a humble 06 525i without the sports package. I am thinking of getting some 166 wheels (M6 offset) and I have some questions.

1) Will the car handle noticeably different going from the stock 17's to the 19's? Will the ride be rougher? Will cornering improve?

2) I really don?t want to lower the car. Will it look noticeably weird with 19" 166's at the stock height? Does anyone have any pictures of this setup?

3) I've seen the 166's on an M5 and they look great. For comparison, how much lower is a stock M5 than a stock 525i?

4) Could I get slightly larger tires to help fill out the wheel well? Can anyone recommend some tires?

Thanks!

I went form 18" RFT's to 19" non-RFT's...so both handling anf ride improved for me IMO...

Non-sport with 19"s could use a drop to get it down to stock sport height. I have stock sport suspension with my 166's, check my gallery for picks. I think it looks fine, lowering comes down to personal preference. Member DRANGED just sold his 166's with M6 offsets and was rolling with stock sport suspension as well. I am sure you can pm him or he will chime in eventually.

Sorry, don't know...

Tire sizes...
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=54583&hl=

Popular brands are General UHP and Falken 452's. Tirerack.com is where most mebers purchase their tires from as prices are good and reviews are helpful

Thanks!
I answered in between in black text..

GL, nice choice in wheels

im pretty sure the stock m5 sits higher. people were talking in another thread where they thought the m5 sat up more. dont take my word for it tho.

Not sure on the other questions but you probably should avoid filling out the wheel well with larger tires, you change the overall diameter of the tires then you lower the speed on your speedo. (not speedos)

recommended tire sizes would be 245/35/19 and 275/30/19, and Id recommend a slight drop

I went from 17" runflat winter tires to 166s with Michelin Pilot Sports and the ride is much nimbler as would be expected. Comfort is no worse either.

I haven't lowered mine yet, pics here and here.

I wouldn't do that, stick to what BMW recommends, i.e. 245/35-19 front and 275/30-19 rear.

Thank you all for the feedback. Its exactly what I needed.

Mikael your car looks great, even without being lowered. How do you like the Michelins? do you have any road noise issues?

I wonder if anyone here has used 245/40/19 and 275/35/19....I wonder if it would rub the liner in the front with sport suspension.

I'd probably go with 285/30/19 on the rear for my next set. I know a few members who have gone the extra 5% above OEM recommendations on 18's, and they had no problems.

The M5 sized tires looked so much better than my current ones and gave much better wheel protection, with the extra height, so that got me thinking. The speedo on our cars is already fast by 2 mph, so the bigger tires might make it right on the money.
