Guys - keep in mind that one of the key reasons for a break in period is to allow the tyres to gain traction and for the brakes to handle better. When I picked up my car at Munich in 05, the guy that walked through the car with me highlighted these key elements (I mean, I had the Autobahn right outside!) While you all are correct that the engines are no longer an issue, the tyres and the pads are so be gentle in your first 1K and then she's all yours.......................

But yea, we really do have some bad drivers. But I am German so it's all good We learn how to drive at age 2.

regular bmws dont need to be broken in properly because they aready have been
meanin you could drive it anyway you want once your out of the dealership
the only cars that need to be properly broken into in the m3,m5,m6 they have a sticker on the front windshields with the info...

When my sale associate introduced me to my service advisor when I purchased the car, he basically told me the break-in period was total BS. "Drive her like she's supposed to be driven" was his comment.

So I did. I went from 0-90 in the 35 mph zone outside the dealership, hopped on the interstate, and up to 120 I went. Thank God no cops were around!

According to my Porsche dealer, my 997 engine is "broken in" before it leaves the factory. I did take it moderately easy on both my 997s, but I never felt the need to religiously adhere to the break in schedule.

Enjoy your car - it's more than tough enough to withstand a little fun in the break in period.
+1 I have to agree, they usually bench test the engines in the factory prior to install. So the days where the engine truly had never been fired prior to you getting the car are long over. You'll be fine to play a little. I wouldn't keep the rev limiter pegged, but drive like normal and you should be fine.
