sdg1871 was merely commenting on dbae1978's comment about 10hp/ 25lbs of torque for his exhaust.
He just forgot to add the quote thats all.
Dont think it had to do with the OP's question.
So dbae is probably confusing his gain of torque for hp, thats all.

Exactly. In a car of the size and weight of the E60, a 10 bhp gain would not be very noticeable.

When I was dragging my mustang back in the day, the only way that I could really tell if the HP was there is by 1/4 times at the track or dyno. I think that your first reaction will be the car pulls harder but I think you will say that because you modded it. The only real test is to say race a friend a few times and then race again after the mod to see if you gain any.

The psychology of 10 added hp might be more noticeable than any real gain in acceleration.

Maybe the sprint booster is all psychological too becuase it gives you zero horsepower but it feels like it gained 50 hp haha LOL

To further complicate the matter.... the same effect as 10 bhp could come from making the car lighter. For example, if you could loose a couple of pounds your car would indeed go faster!

Or ask the passengers to loose weight before allowed to travel in your car.

Or just stop having passengers. I mean... what do they actually add to the driving experience?!?

10hp at the wheels or 10hp at the crank? 10hp across the band, or 10 peak hp gained at 2000 rpm?
Most likely in a car over 3500 lbs you are not going to feel it. If you do, chances are it is all in your mind. 10 hp in my 2570lb MX-5, you will notice that.
Put it this way, 10hp at the wheels, in the meat of the power band, in a 3500+lb car might get you through the 1/4 mile .05-.10 seconds faster... not very noticeable.

I was wondering when someone was going to make the distinction between the wheel and the crank.

I think the non-Ms, it would be noticeable, but what's more important, I think, is torque, which is probably what you feel at the seat of your pants. HP can influence torque, but 10 hp may not do something significant. Still, I'm sure you would feel it. What about something like a BMS air filter, a cold air intake and rpi scoops? Should be, what, atleast a boost in 20hp? You should be able to feel that for less than $300. I think that would be worth it; I know that's really what I'm leaning towards now, although I shift my list-of-wants alot. So while 10 may not be a whole lot, couple it with a few other things and it could add up fast and really make a difference.
