Im looking to put M5 wheels on my 550I sport for a winter setup. Anyone have this setup? If so did you need spacers and what size?
Thanks guys!!

ideally for winter, you get better traction with a smaller width tire.
m5 rims will bolt right up, but the rears look better with a spacer....around 10,12, or even 14 mm

Yeah I agree with the smaller tires but I want something that looks nice being they will be on for 6 months of the year. We have an X5 as well and drive that if we get a lot of snow. Its just that these super sport summer tires are terrible in cold weather. I got stuck in my driveway that is flat with 1/2 of snow!

Will 255/40/19 Blizzaks work on the m5 saggared setup (8.5 front 9.5 rear)?

Thanks

the front will be ok, but you'd really be stretching the tire on the rear rims, and it will look odd also.

Thanks much for all the help, so after a bunch of research this afternoon i need some help. So here is what I currently have and like the look so wondering how I can accomplish this with the m5 winter set up.......

Currently 08 550I with 172's - 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 rear - im confused because i Have found the offsets on the 172's is 18 front and 32 rear

So what I have found on the offsets for the m5 rims is 12 front and 28 rear

my question is the smaller the number offset the more it sticks out correct... I have been reading that the m5 wheels require spacers to make it look right but wouldnt the 28 rear offset acctually stick out more than the 172's w/ 32 offset? The fronts would stick out 6mm as well with 172's at 18 and m5 at 12.

Thanks again

Alright, I'm going to ask the question everyone is wondering...

Why not put snow tires on your 172's and put summer tires on the M5 rims? I have the M-Tech package with the stock 18's and just put 19" M6 wheels on the car. I can't imagine having winter tires on the M6 wheels and then slapping the smaller, narrower M-Tech wheels back on the car for the summer.

Once you see how the M5 rims look on the car you won't want to return to stock anyhow.

Well I guess since they are both 19's with the same setup 8.5 front 9.5 rear im not gaining anything as far as better in snow vs the m5's and they will both be on for about 6 months I can save the cost of swapping my summer tires to M5 rims. I really like the 172's but thought it would be fun see something new (m5's) every 6 months or so.
Thanks

I should clarify I have the 08 550I sport

where do you live, that you would need snow tires for 6 months? and if you really have that much snow and for so long, i think the wide low profile tires are a poor choice.

Mn, but last year we had like 10 inches of snow.... This year 13 already. Need them from about oct to march give or take a little. We do have a 4.6is which is great in snow but I can't use these summer tires in the winter even in slush they are unstable. I want something that looks nice and performs better in cold weather/ little snow.
Thanks

here is what im going for......

08 M5 wheels on 08 550I sport Anyone?-dsc01031.jpg

dont know if these are oem or reps but offests look great.

I guess my question is if i get reps that are the same rim size as the 172's 8.5 front 9.5 rear and have 20mm offset all the around the fronts are close to my oem's (18 to 20) not worried but the rears on my 172's have 32offset and im going to 20mm is this going to stick way out?

Turbo do you have oem m5's? if so looks like the specs are a 28mm offset and then you said to use a 10,12mm spacer which would be like getting a 18 or 16 mm with out spacer right? if this is the case the 20mm rep rim offset would be pretty darn close.

Sorry for all the questions just dont want to get some rims that stick way out and look bad.
