My Ride: 530i
What if someone wants a reliable vehicle with multiple options? 550i's usually come with more options.
I ended up with 2 550i's in my family. 535i is a great car and is cheaper, though I didn't buy it for several reasons. Here are a few: 1) HFPF failures (not only N54, but N55 and new 4.4V8) plus I wanted the V8 but JB4 sounded very tempting, though HFPF +JB4 - no go in my book, 2) M-Aero kit with 172 rims looks better to me than M5 package (minus the quad exhaust). I was able to find a few 535s with M-Aero package, but not with 172 rims. Those that had both had aftermarket kits with most likely knock off rims.
It is funny how 535i vs 550i comparison always diverge to jb4.
Probably 99.9% 535s are driven without JB4 or other serious mods. There is something called design margin/headroom. I can see 10% torque/hp increase with mod but 25% or higher, I always question why BMW engineers haven't implemented JB4 themselves and marketed one as 535i super sport.

As I said, in most regards, other than the most obvious (engine wise) one can find almost everything offered on a 550i on a 535i.
Gorgeous car, but if the OP wants a relatively quick sell, dropping the price would surely help their chances. Otherwise it just might be a tad long and tedious to sell their car, at that price, until a... BMW connoisseur happens upon the advertisement or breezes on by.
Right car at the right price; for at that current price ($39k) that's well within the realm of an M5. Now which one would you choose?

I really like the ventilated seats option. I enjoy that feature a lot on my car. Though I've noticed that dakota leather in my wife's car is noticeably softer than nasca (required for ventilated seats) in mine. A lot of neat features on this 550i.
