It sound like that you have not driven a E60
535i is no match to a M5 on the track.
Actually...it sounds more like he hasn't driven a M5. Have you by chance been to Disney World? There is a ride called the "Rockin' Rollercoaster". At the beginning of that ride, you get slammed from 0 to 60ish mph in about 3 seconds. If you can't get a ride in a M5, try the Rockin' Rollercoaster..it's about the same thing...

The last time I went to Disney World was 15 years ago.
I have not been on the Rockin' Rollercoaster but I have been on a ride some thing like that, dose 0-60 in under 3 sec and wow I loved it.
I bet the atom feel like that.

I own the 550i...My girlfriend owns an M5 and I just raced both of them Sunday. There is no comparison. M5 is like a jet fighter and the 550i is a twin engine airplane.
I don't know if I'd take it to that extreme. On a track where ultimate speed is not a factor, I'd bet the 550i Sport and an M5 would be almost neck-and-neck. The 550i's better torque curve and lower weight would help put it close to the M5 in that situation.

Hmm so lets make it a bit more interesting...
how tuned would a 535 (or 55o) have to be to beat an M5 around a track? (straight line, im guessing, is pretty much out of the question)

Not so fast! Let's be realistic. The M5 is an awesome machine, to be sure, but it's not "unbeatable" in any fashion. Bear in mind the M5 has almost nothing to offer against the E63 AMG in a straight line. Think about the upcoming twin turbo V8 for the F10. As much as people talk about this "Vishnu" person/tuner, no doubt there will be a tune for that engine and bye-bye M5. (maybe? ) But that's future-speak. In the here-and-now, a mild supercharging would put a 550i Sport right in the mix.
