The reason for the engine replacement was efficiency. The 2010 S4 gets 18/28 MPG while an 08 S4 with the 4.2L V8 gets 13/20 MPG. With similar performance it was a no brainer for the MPG conscientious.

oh give me a break. the roads in the states can EASILY handle those speeds, when there's not a lot of traffic. as long as your paying attention, it's actually not that dangerous, as Americans we are simply used to driving extremely slow. the only thing stupid about it would be if he were jinking around traffic, or because traffic cops take you to jail. anytime i'm on the highway i cruise 110-120 average, taking it up to 150 when there isn't traffic. and with nary a thought of nervousness or concern.
I feel safer at highway speeds, even at speeds at 100mph+ than I do on regular roads at 30 to 40mph where everyone is going different directions and stopping for this and that, changing lanes, etc. Driving fast in a straight line is rather easy.
