Interesting how you noticed that. I've noticed that mine are black but thought they were rubber and probably wouldn't have realized they were not rubber (they look it) until I hand washed the car. Of course, hand washing will come sometime this year even though right now it feels like I live near the artic and that spring really is months away. Car's in the shop after getting rear ended so maybe I'll get those painted anyway. Don't know that I want a reflector on the bumper but the red looks better than the black.

Do you mean in the bumper? Like inserts? If so, that's where the red reflectors go nowadays. Back in the day, the reflectors weren't legal in the US, so they filled them in with either black inserts and then later, painted ones... You can buy reflectors online. $24.

Just curious, but why would bumper reflectors not have been legal here in the first place? Do they pose some kind of hazard to other motorists that doesn't come to mind, at least mine?

We never figured that one out... especially when the red ones have a DOT marking on it...
