Hi, I tried searching for anyone with the same problem I'm having with no results, I hope someone can help me with this. I own a 2005 545 with Manual transmission, every time i start driving on 1st gear i get loud clunk noise coming from rear of the car I can also hear it when shifting from 1st to 2nd and while driving on the first gear and letting go of gas, I think it got louder recently. I tried jacking up the car and listening to it and it sounds like its coming from differential. Did anyone had this problem before and knows what it might be ?

Thanks in advance

I had it and when we tried a.New upgraded diff that didn't fit, they put the old one back on and it stopped. Have it checked out. Wish I could help more. Seems a little tightening fixed mine.

could be a bad diff, I had to replace mine along with the rear wheel bearings and that fixed everything (the clunk was from my diff)

I believe there was a TSB about this differential problem.

I have this problem as well with my 05 545. Sounds kind of bad, and makes you feel like something going to go bad soon, but it drives fine and feels fine. Its always something with this car...

hi Peter, i ran across your older post on the clunk noise from the rear. I have the same car and the same noise in the same conditions as yours. My mechanic told me that its from a warn out rear sub frame bushings that need to be replaced. But after reading your post it looks like you were leaning towards a bad diff or drive shaft. i was hoping you could tell me how you handled this issue and what the cause was. thanks for your help
