Default Sound quality on Sirius

Ok, so several years after I SHOULD have been asking this question - especially since I received several software updates while under warranty to "fix" other issues, but this one has always bugged me and frankly I'm not sure if I ever asked the dealer about it. My Sirius radio sounds horrible...like it's two tin cans and a string. Almost as if it's mono, not even stereo.

Back in the day, I had my AM sound quality drastically improved through a software update...was there ever one for Sirius sound quality issues? Or is this just how it sounds? I have an 06 530i with logic 7 fwiw.

Thanks!

Default A hardware problem maybe?

I'm thinking it's probably your satellite module if everything else sounds okay. Are connections tight, etc?

I guess I'll have to dig in and take a look. Honestly, it's sounded the same since day 1. CD/Radio/Aux etc. all sound WAY 10x better. Granted it's 7 years later, but I think I've always written it off as "maybe satellite just doesn't sound as good."

FWIW, I've had Sirius in 5 cars now, and it never sounds quite as good as CD or FM because it's compressed so much to get all those channels in one feed. That being said, the Sirius feed in the E60 sounds the worst. So there's probably nothing wrong with yours that isn't wrong with all of ours as well.

That's an understatement, lol! You can't hear it at all then!

I just use the sirius app on my iphone connected to the aux for sat music. Sounds the same to me and cost a lot less.

Default There IS a difference

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I just discovered there IS a remarkable difference between the Sirius sound and the sound I'm getting through Bluetooth on Pandora.

My Sirius subscription lapsed, so I started using the Griffin BlueTrip Aux device with my Android and I noticed the stereo separation right away. I'm no audio expert, but I noticed the difference.

Just an update on Sirius subscriptions... my $77 annual subscription ended December 1st. They finally cut me off the other day when I refused to pay more than double the rate, so their new deal is $88/year or $44/6 mos. when you threaten to cancel. The deal prices have gone up a bit.
