I just dropped my 04 545i off at the local BMW shop, automatic transmission is leaking. I removed the under car panels to confirm my suspicions. The car has 124K miles and recently I noticed the tranny slip in the lower gears.

I searched the forum for similar issues and didn't find any. Anyone have any clues and possible cost to repair?

Is it leaking from a specific place? O-Ring? Pan Gasket?

Some people have experienced warped pans and leaking o-rings so first find out where it's coming from. Transmission slips might be because of low fluid from the leaks. Changing out pans and o-rings are not too expensive but fix it before the tranny is too low on fluid and gives out.

The SA called today, said it was a sleeve I believe and that the pan needed to be removed to get at it. He recommended to replace the the pan as well since the labor to do so was needed to get at the sleeve. I'm out a little more than $1000 to replace both but its better than a new trans.

that sleeve and pan seem to leak with age. i assume they are going to put new fluid in while they're at it.

Yes, I told him I wanted new fluid. What is the sleeve he refers to, I'm not informed at all about transmissions?
