just picked up 04 545i and fuel economy is horrible. I looked at my computer and it is telling me 14.5mpg and 20mph are my averages?! Is this normal? My 01 GS430 V8 4.3L 300hp averaged 21mpg!!! I made appointment with dealer to do replace dash wood that is cracked under warranty, check door seal squeaks and MPG consumption!! What everybody else averages?

Average 18mpg and 17 with the winter blend gas. Get 25 mpg on the highway. Unless your driving like a maniac, 14.5 is too low. Either your computer is off or have the engine checked.

Perhaps you should have bought a car with a smaller engine then... or cut a hole in the floor, switch the engine off and do a Fred Flintstone

+1 That is what I got in my 545 sport with the step tranny. I tend to drive aggressively according to my wife.

If you were driving a Prius, your wife would still think your driving was aggressive. Maybe your doing alot of city driving?? I'm fairly aggressive too. Hit a buck-fifty last Sunday on the way to the golf course. Average mpg dropped from 18 to 17.

Hah! Don't they all think that?

For all this debate we still don't have the OP doing it the old fashioned way to confirm what the computer says. I recall many a discussion about how inaccurate the computer was...
