04 530i trans failsafe???? Help!!
Hi,
I have an 04 530i e60 and have been having transmission issues for a few now.
Anyways, these are the codesI have been getting, I can and will try to fix them, the ones I'm worried about are related to the transmission.
P0174
P0700
P0171
P17EE
P0741
P0174
P0171
Seems if I just baby the shifts points to under 2k and use manual shift, it doesn't act up, but once I step on it, I doesn't want move and all a sudden at about 4-5k slam and will make this duck call sound and go in to trans failsafe mode.
Turn off the car it it's back to normal.
But I still have the issue of me needing to baby it to not go into failsafe.
Seems at a slight incline, when I apply a little gas it always slips and go into failsafe mode.
BMW said that it had a mech sleeve leak and wanted $1200 to fix, I topped off the oil and it didn't help it.
Was hoping that a top off would make a noticeable difference, but didn't.
Maybe the sleeve leak is allowing air in the tranny, making it not shift right.

did you check the fluid level with the engine running? this is very important.
the leaking mech sleeve would not cause these driving issues. its just a sleeve for the wiring harness.
assuming the fluid level is ok, it sounds like one or some of your clutch packs are slipping under load. it could be due to worn clutches, low fluid pressure, or a faulty seal somewhere.
if your fluid level is ok, then your trans may need a rebuild.
