Question

I recently switched back to a BMW after having a couple Porsches. Granted the porsches don't have cupholders but if BMW is going to spend the time putting them in the car shouldn't they at least work? I have taken a couple road trips in my 545I and I have to say the cup holders SUCK... I think if I rubber band a Mcdonalds cardboard cupholder to my armrest I would be better off.

Cupholders?

Personally I don't think they belong in the car much less in any location that might get in the way or look tacky (like the rear armrest). But I know I'm not with the majority.

What did they do bad? I really like mine; they hold everything I drink in a car very well--Starbuck's Venti Coffee, soft-drink cans, soft-drinks in plastic bottles (cokes with a minor problem), Safeway small-size flavored water, and other smallish waters.

I don't see the problem with them. They hold anything I put in there just fine. Now if you're trying to put a 64 oz drink in there, that's a different story. Then the cupholders are the least of your problems

Still, they are a popular problem.

Other than the location is on the passanger side of the car, the cup holders works fine to me.

In this day and age when everything is "SUPER-SIZED" including the drivers themselves, I guess one could complain about the cupholder. Does that make it a legitimate complaint?

If you think the e60 cupholders are bad, you should've seen the ones in the E39. They were an absolute joke!

Maybe someone who understands the cupholders can explain to me:
If I put a can or Stbx coffe in the cupholder, that plate at the botton pushes it up on one side and the can is always tilted and ready to fall over. What am I doing wrong? Is there a trick or a special way to put the can in?

Our centre cupholder broke for no reason at all, and they're very unstable. The ones in the back are terrible too, they look ugly, and the drinks get stuck in it
