New Member Intro
Hey all,
Got a referral over here from Rock Auto newsletter, cool site! I was 'gifted' a 2000 528i with a couple inches of water in the floor... fixed the rear door panel leak and got it dried out. PUlled the trans and had the oil pump bushing replaced due to puking fluid out and replaced the torque convertor because it was worn pretty bad. Replaced the pan and valve cover gaskets while I had things apart.
Have an engine light (fuel trim bank 1, bank 2, etc). Found and fixed (some?) of the vacuum leaks and it runs better, but light still pops on. Also have an airbag light I need to figure out, reader says "unable to communicate"...
Other than these, it runs beautifully, comfortable and peppy!
Happy to be here, and hope to find some answers to my lingering issues...
Mike

Hi im also new to the forum, ive owned my 01 530i for a number of years now & love it its just coming up on 300k & still drives like new, i look after it myself & over the years have done many repairs/maintance to it........mdearman your problem with the airbag light & the scan tool with failure to communicate sounds like an issue i had a few years ago with mine(i cant really remember the name of the connector=maybe someone in the forum can varify this but from memory its the x83 connector & its under the carpet on the passanger side(thats in Australia were the passanger side is the left,so not sure were u are but could well be your drivers side(if u drive on the Left).....i had to remove the seat remove the carpet & remove the big foam inserts .then you will find the connector sitting in the floor near the sill(there is a couple of them there & i dont recall the coloring of the wires(but just check them all & repair any that are coroded(i had the same issue as when i first got my 530i the sunroof was leaking(drain hose on the left had fallen off )so every tine it rained or i washed the car the front left side floor would end up with a pool of water in it, so with the water thats been in yours id say u may well have the same corroded connector.i only found the issue when i replaced the drivers window glass ,i disconnected the door air bag without disconnecting the battery first(i didnt really worry as i have a snap=on scan tool & new i could clear the code, but as that connector was corroded my scan tool would also not connect to the SRS/airbag system, anyway hope it helps let us know how u get on with it.
