Question 1997 540 cluster replacement

Morning everyone:
I'm about to bring a 1997 540 from Canada to the States, and the border guards are telling me I have to have a speedometer with MPH, not just KMH.
I'm wondering if anyone here has experience in removal and replacement of the cluster, and do I need to do any programming, or is it just plug and play?
I'm a little bummed, as the KMH speedo looks really clean, but am looking forward to getting my old car down to Oregon and using it again.
Thanks very much for any help you can provide.

That's too bad that the Canadian cars do not also have MPH because I know my '97 528i did have both.

On one hand you're right, it would make my life a lot easier right now, on the other hand, only having the KMH speedo is a lot cleaner and I like the way it looks a lot. So I've enjoyed driving it as is for years now, and I'll just be surprised for a month or two every time I get in the car and see something different!
