Hi, I am having nothing but trouble with this whole "forum" series !!!! I know it is no doubt my "tech savvy" or more the lack of it ha ha, but perservere I will and eventually , hopefully, maybe, possibly yadda yadda ya, I will get the answer. (can't even get my backspace to work today ) Anyway I was able to get another key for my 1995 BMW 540i 6 Spd. I had misplaced the original (remote) key and the dealer (450 K away) was able to find me a replacement key. The difference is the replacement key is not a "remote' key so the electric door locks don't work of course. THE PROBLEM is apparently because I do not have the "remote" key as soon as I attempt to start the vehicle the alarm is triggered and the starter motor apparently is disconnected. Therefore I am left sitting there with the alarm beeping and no power!!!!! Somewhere I read that there was a "blue" fuse, switch, connector or something under the rear seat that would disconnect the alarm system. I am not sure of anything after that and am hesitant to start disconnecting wires knowing the problems that could cause with the electrical system. Can ANYONE HELP """" I have just spend a small fortune on this beauty having it repainted, new mouldings, etc etc etc and there it sits gathering dust in my driveway. Help please!!!!!

Well, still the wrong forum since the OP has an E34, not an E60, so the thread probably needs to be moved again.

OP, removing / disabling the alarm won't fix your problem, you need to bypass the immobilizer system (EWS) and that's very difficult -- assuming it's even possible. The answer to your question may depend on when your car was manufactured and what EWS version you have. A quick Google search returned the following and the page I copied it from has a lot of additional information. Since it's on another forum, it's not appropriate for me to post the link, but you can google the info yourself and locate it easy enough. Did the dealership you ordered the key from actually program it for your car? It sounds like they may have sent you an unprogrammed key:

Have you talked to a locksmith yet?

If the key has not been programmed to the car then you probably need a dealer

A wreckingyard might provide matched keys, locks and ECU
Swapping everything might be an option if everything else fails

It sounds as if you are heavily invested in this vehicle and this hopefully is your final hurdle
Your tone seems as if you have gotten some assistance from someone ( in that you have a key) They might be able to provide the sequence of events to resolve this as well

I would reframe from chopping up the wiring until you have a torch in the other hand and the cars life is measured in minutes

It's not all bad...

 

To disable/bypass the EWSII on the E34 540i you replace the 484 DME with a 404 DME (Ebay), cut and leave disconnected the green wire at pin 66 to the DME. Cut and connect together leads 1 & 3 at the EWS module under the dash.

This is also the same procedure to run a performance chip/tune if also interested. Cheers
