working wit fuse

My Ride: 04 525i w/ sports and premium pakage, titanium silver, gray dakota leather w/ polar grain wood trim, steptronic
im trying to add some extra lights that will work wit dome/footwell lights. i have to find the fuse number and
connect the wires on it. before i start this, do i have to disconnect the battery? if i do how? i never worked this kind of
things so kinda scared.(dont wanna *uck up my car)
