hello,

I am about to change the oil for the 1st time (07 E60). If the car is on an incline (plastic ramp bought from Kragen), will all the oil drain out of the car in this position or I have to drain the oil on leveled ground? I have not remove the cover to see the location of the drain plug.
Thanks.

Have a look when you get the cover off and see where the sump plug is. My guess is yes your gonna get most of it out. I always like to change my oil when the cars just been running for a little while but not too hot. The oil seems to flow out better.
Anyway most off the dealers seem to draw it out with a pump. So taking the sump plug out must be way better.
Measure it and you will know whats left in.

What engine do you have? I have a 550i and have changed my oil 3 times. The drain is in the back of the sump, so I get all the oil out when I use my ramps.

My car is 530i. Also, do you follow the torque spec called out for the oil filter cap or just tight it by feel. I believe the it calls for 25.5 N-m.

I follow the torque spec. I think the conversion is somewhere around 8 ft. lb., but you should confirm (too cold for me to go to the garage and check tonight!!). I also have an extra canister ($25) in case I break/strip the original.

I just completed the oil change myself and it was really easy. The only problem I had was the plastic ramps kept sliding when I tried to drive the car up on them (I think because the car is rear wheel drive so the front wheels keep pushing on the ramps and there was not enough friction between the ramp and the garage floor). I put a couple pieces of old carpet under the ramps and they stopped sliding. I measured the old oil and it came out to be 6.5 quarts. So that's how much I added back. i think it calls for 6.9 but i out in 6.5 cause i didn't want to over fiil it.

Glad to hear it was easy! I have the same problem with my ramps when I use them in my garage. If I use them in the driveway, the concrete is rough enough to keep them from slipping.
