Hi

I hope someone out there can help because I've come up against an unusual problem with a Dension Gateway 500 and so far, everyone I have contacted is unable to help. I have searched the net and forums for answers but I can find nothing that even comes close, let me explain...

I have a 2007 E60. I fitted an after-market bluetooth (phone) as well as a Dension Gateway 500. After a couple of problems I finally got them both to work perfectly apart from one thing.
Whenever I search my Ipod Nano 5th generation OR USB "stick" for song titles or Artist names... every sixth name/title is garbled text !
Its always the same text... "8720?72" which I am unable to select. The Dension plays the song if I let it run on from song five.

I have updated the software/firmware on both the Ipod and the Dension Gateway 500 to the latest versions, all dip switch settings are correct and double checked and all wiring is correct and double checked.

Has anyone ever seen this problem before or has a solution ?

I've attached a pic so try and give a better idea of what I am talking about

Can anyone help with this ???

is it the same playlist? i'm thinking there might be an invalid character in the name of the song or it's ID3 tag.

Hi

The playlist is perfect on my desktop pc and on the Ipod itself.
I finally managed to get through to Dension last night... they don't know either !!!
Just wondered if anyone has seen this before.

Dension support is weak at best...

If you have updated the firmware and checked the switches are correct then simple things to try:

1) Remove the .bin files on your usb add 12 tracks, does it happen if only the usb is plugged in? If this happens on USB and IPOD then its either a faulty unit or the bluetooth interfering.
2) Remove the power for the bluetooth and see if it still happens.. this will rule out the bluetooth interfering with it.
3) Remove the power from the Dension leave it for about 5 mins and then reconnect to see if it resets any bugs.

If its still there after the above it would point to a faulty unit

Hope that helps

Hi

Thanks for your suggestions - I'm very grateful.
I'll give them a go and let you know how I get on...

As for Dension tech support, I think your very polite in saying that they are "weak" ! I would say something much stronger !!!

Thanks again

Hi

The problem persists !!!

I've removed all .bin files

Tried two different Ipods on their own and a usb "stick"

Disconnected the bluetooth

and installed a different Dension unit

The problem must lie with the car... I wonder if its worth getting the car "coded" again just in case as it seems to me that the car and the Dension are not communicating properly

After being away for a few months with work I decided to tackle the problem described above one last time, I got this reply from Dension.......

Dear Customer,

Sorry for the late reply.
Unfortunately we got 2-3 similar feedback as yours but we couldn't reproduced it yet.
As we think this could be any car specific or equipment dependent issue.
Unfortunately we can not solve this issue now and also in the near future we do not plan to work on the Gateway 500 project.
(its the decision of our management.)
If you want to get a refund please let me know where you purchased the device and please also send me the copy of the invoice of the unit.
We try to contact with your locally Dension dealer for assistance.

best regards
Dension Support Team

So in short... if you come across this problem with your E60, live with it or ask for a refund. Dension are not going to help ! Don't do what I did and spend lots of cash and time trying to find a solution.
Thats the best advice I can offer.

Shame !
