As has been stated in multiple threads, the stock audio system is poor at best. As I read through the many suggestions on improvements I see many comments like "for around $1,800 - $2500 you can get a decent sound". How about some ideas for the mere mortals here who can't plunk down $400 for a single set of speakers or $500 for an amp. Yeah, I know that there money buys quality but for some of us it's just not possible to pay out that much.

Thanks!

Bavarian Soundwerks makes speaker replacement packages specifically designed for BMWs. They claim that their replacement packages completely fit into the OEM locations, and that they include all of the appropriate interfaces, plugs, etc. to make it possible for someone to install the speakers at home. I have never heard any of their products, but from what I can tell they use private label versions of speakers made by MB Quart and Rainbow - certainly high quality brands. And the information on the Bavarian Soundwerks site seems credibly presented.

They are about to release a Stage 1 upgrade package for E60 vehicles that will replace all of the speakers except the under-seat subs for $699. That is an outstanding deal for 8 high quality speakers, and even better if it is truly possible to self-install. I will be keeping my eye on it...

Thanks for the comments Will. Do you know if I would need to install a separate amp for the BSW speakers or is this stock amp sufficent to drive them?

If you have car with European specifications, the easiest way to get better sound is add tweeter to front doors. I mean honestly better sound, not more volume or bass The US cars has always tweeters.

There are at least couple threads about possibilities:
