There's good information here in the DIY section.
The best advice is from Anzafin:

10) Ignition.

- Turn the ignition on but don't start yet.
- Wait for the blings (time, date).
- Start the car.
- Test out all the buttons in SW.
- Note!!! I did this from the passenger seat just for sure !

The chances of the airbag going off is virtually nil, static might damage an electronic component, the voltages may be hugh but the amperage is just not there, and the airbag needs a fair bit of amperage to actuate.

Just make sure you disconnect the battery first.

That's what i needed to know, i feel abit more confident now. I was going to disconnect the battery for sure ! Parts are ready and waiting, i'll have a go tomorrow
